EMDR Therapy

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing) is a powerful, evidence-based psychotherapy designed to help your brain reprocess and release stressful or traumatic experiences. Founded by Dr Francine Shapiro, EMDR is now widely recognised as a safe and effective approach for treating many forms of trauma and other distressing experiences.

EMDR uses bilateral eye movements that engage both sides of the brain. This allows us to address maladaptively stored memories that can then be ‘reprocessed’ by creating new neural connections. Doing this means the brain is then able to make more adaptive associations with the memories and store them in a way that means the emotional intensity is greatly reduced.

EMDR is generally a shorter term therapy and there are over 20 international studies that confirm people who have EMDR recover much faster than those in other types of therapy. In fact, the EMDR Institute says studies show that 77-90% of people were free from PTSD after only three to seven sessions.

I strongly believe that everyone deserves to be seen, heard, valued and respected. I work with adults from all backgrounds, beliefs and identities and my practice is inclusive of the LGBTQ+ community.

My aim is to create a safe, supportive space free from judgement that allows you to explore whatever challenges you may be facing.
