A Brain–Mind–Body Approach to Living with Chronic Illness and Creating a Life That Still Feels Like Yours

When Your Body Says No But Life Goes On

For anyone living with chronic illness who has been dismissed, misdiagnosed or told it’s probably stress or in your head. Psychotherapist Lisa Jones draws on more than thirty years of living with chronic illness herself plus years of clinical practice to explain how everything is connected, why your nervous system has learned to stay on high alert, and how to build a life that still feels like yours using her Reframe.Rebuild and Regulate framework.

The Book

What the book is about

If you live with chronic illness, you know the physical symptoms are only part of it. There’s the exhaustion of explaining yourself to people who can’t see what you’re carrying, the appointments that leave you feeling worse than when you walked in, and the grief for the version of your life you’d planned.

Grounded in neuroscience but written with warmth and honesty, this book takes you on a three part journey: understanding what is happening when your body says no looking at the brain-mind-body connection, regulating your nervous system in ways that are achievable using practical tools to work with, and rebuilding a life that feels meaningful, joyful and like yours.

Part Two

Reframe

Look at the patterns running your responses, including the ones learned from years of pain, stress and being disbelieved and change the ones that no longer help you. Let go of the identity that illness has forced on you and begin to reconnect with you truly are beyond your diagnosis.

Part Three

Rebuild

About the author

Why Lisa wrote this book

Lisa Jones is senior accredited integrative therapist and coach who has been in private practice for over ten years, working in Wilmslow and online. She blends counselling, psychotherapy, EMDR, coaching and applied neuroscience to help people understand the connection between the brain, mind and body.

She has also lived with chronic illness for most of her life. Misdiagnosed for years, she spent a decade believing she had left it behind, and built her career around that recovery. Then in her forties, perimenopause and Covid arrived together and the symptoms came flooding back. She had to start again, and this time she used everything she knew as a psychotherapist to understand what was happening in her body, and why.

She knows what it’s like to be dismissed, disbelieved and left to figure it out on her own. She also knows what it feels like to find a way through. This is the book she needed at her lowest: one that explained how everything is connected, and showed her a way to build a life that still felt like hers.

As you read through the chapters, it often feels like Lisa has dived into your own mind and teased out both everything you already knew was in there and plenty you didn’t.
